Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards

I have been selected as a semi-finalist for the 2011 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards! I am one of ten artists selected from a group of 108 applicants by a distinguished panel of curators and gallery directors. The panel will visit my studio to view my newest work and ask questions.

If all goes well I may receive a large grant and some excellent exhibition opportunities. I feel greatly honored to be a semi-finalist. Wish me luck!

I was selected to participate in an international symposium/studio residency at the International Ceramics Research Center at Guldagergaard in Skaelskor, Denmark.

Images from my trip and the work I am making during the residency are available on my blog.

Kansas City Star Feature

I was featured in a Kansas City Star article written by Alice Thorson yesterday! The article discusses the reincarnation of Red Star, it's current show and a good portion of the article discusses my current work! A large display of this work is now on view for sale at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art museum store. I also have a nice selection of work on display at Red Star.

Basement Studio / Work Resumed!

I recently constructed a new studio in my basement at home. Yesterday I started making work again! The new studio set up will allow me to continue to design, produce and cast new moulds until the new Red Star Studios space is functional in October.

This downtime does mean that I will not be soda firing until we reopen in the Fall; However, I have lined up several opportunities to fire in wood kilns over the Summer.

This is an excellent development and I am very excited to produce several loads of wood fired sculpture and vessels. Look for my newest images of the work in July!

Emerging Artist Feature

I am featured in the May issue of Ceramics Monthly which focuses on emerging talent in clay. As a 2010 Emerging Artist, several of my images and writings are highlighted along with other prominent artists in the field.
